Ironkey Workspace Provisioning Tool Enables Enterprise-Wide Adoption of Windows To Go

Productivity and mobility benefits of PC on a Stick now easily deployed across departments, organizations and enterprises.

OAKDALE, Minn. -- December 4, 2013 -- Imation Corp. (NYSE: IMN), a global data storage and information security company, today announced the IronKey Workspace Provisioning Tool, a software-based solution that speeds and simplifies provisioning of Windows 8.1 desktops using Microsoft's Windows To Go on IronKey Workspace USB drives. Providing provisioning of up to 42 IronKey Workspace drives in approximately an hour, organizations can use the IronKey Workspace Provisioning Tool to realize the cost savings and mobility-enabling benefits of Microsoft Windows To Go.

Windows To Go is an enterprise feature of Windows 8.1 that lets people be productive from almost any location they choose to work from using the compatible computer they choose. The Windows To Go solution is ideal for mobile workers, teleworkers and contractors, and fuels secure "Bring Your Own Device" (BYOD) strategies that allow employees to use their home PCs for work. Once the IronKey Workspace is set up as a Windows To Go drive, the operating system, applications and data are all contained on the Microsoft-certified IronKey Workspace USB drive. When installed into a compatible computer, the drive uses the host PC's hardware and resources such as monitors, CPUs and network connections.

With the IronKey Workspace Provisioning Tool, IT pros can confidently and rapidly arm a department or team with a single Windows 8.1 corporate "Golden Image" on rugged, secure Microsoft-certified IronKey Workspace W500 or W300 USB drives, using a process similar to the way laptops are provisioned, but much faster. The IronKey Workspace Provisioning Tool is ideal for IT desktop teams supporting large numbers of Windows To Go users, opening opportunities for value-added resellers and IT service providers to support customer deployments of Windows To Go.

The new IronKey Workspace Provisioning Tool is fast and easy to use. After installing the software on a Windows 8.1 laptop, customers attach two seven-port USB hubs. The software allows IT desktop administrators to choose from a variety of formatting options - including 32-bit, 64-bit, centralized device management and remote BIOS updates. The tool can provision up to 14 certified USB devices at once, provisioning all 14 in approximately 20 minutes.

"We see huge potential for Windows To Go, and given our experience, we are ready to build services around it so that our end-users can see productivity and security benefits from Windows 8.1. The new IronKey provisioning tool is vital to enabling our services, as it will allow us to deliver Windows To Go-enabled drives at a scale that is required by our customers," said James Hall, sales manager at CSIT Yorkshire Ltd, a UK-based IT services firm.

"We're seeing tremendous excitement about how Windows To Go can enable secure, productive remote work while dramatically lowering desktop deployment costs," said Erik Hutslar, executive director of product management for Imation's IronKey solutions. "What our customers need are ways to integrate Windows To Go devices into their desktop management and workflow. The IronKey Workspace Provisioning Tool reflects our commitment to meeting this need and adding value to the Windows To Go experience - from rugged Microsoft-certified devices and hardware encryption to enhanced security, centralized device management and, now, provisioning tools. We are committed to helping our end users automate and simplify Windows To Go deployment, and working with our partners to develop services around Windows To Go. The ability to provision numerous USB drives at once is key to those efforts."

The IronKey Workspace Provisioning Tool is available today from Imation Mobile Security Channel Partners.
